Oddie has just three more years to wait until the Paris Olympic Games and a fair bit longer to get to the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
All this games talk left Oddie wondering what happened to the bid for regional Victoria to host a Commonwealth Games in 2030.
Greater Victoria 2030 opened a Twitter account in April 2017 amid a blaze of publicity to launch the bid but there hasn’t been a post since July 2017.
Four months isn’t long for enthusiasm to wane to the point where nothing happens.
What about the umbrella organisation for the bid?
Regional Cities Victoria has been a bit more active posting about the initiative as recently as November 2019 on Twitter that “The ‘People's Games’ could form the blueprint of major sporting events in #regionalvic. Great to get an update from the Greater Vic Commonwealth Games Taskforce”.
So what about the taskforce?
Oddie is now very confused because the taskforce still lists Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem as a leading member.
Cr Adem failed to get elected again in 2020 and while we have a new councillor representing us on Regional Cities Vic, there doesn’t appear to have been any replacement appointed to the taskforce.

Oddie is pretty certain Brisbane 2032 is the next major games on our shores, so good luck Brizzy.
Oddie would love to see Matilda the winking kangaroo revived form the 1982 Commonwealth Games, surely it is gathering dust in a warehouse somewhere.
Oh, and if you plan to use drones to make a map of Australia in the sky above the Gabba, don’t forget Tassie again. The folk down there still haven't gotten over 1982, it is like asking the Kiwis to let go of the whole underarm thing.
