The Smiths also share something far more iconic – they both have incredible mullets.
Eleven-year-old Jett from Mooroopna is a mad Dogs fan in a house full of Richmond and South Australian football fans, but this weekend he’s desperate to see his side overcome the Melbourne Demons in Saturday’s AFL grand final.
He’d love to see Bailey and his mullet with the cup.
“Me and my best friend Nathan at school, we were talking to each other and said if we each got a mullet we’d keep it,” Jett said.
“Nathan’s was inspired by Josh Daicos because he goes for Collingwood but mine was from Bailey.”
It’s no surprise his favourite player is Bailey, and also the player Jett thinks will take home the Norm Smith Medal for best-on-ground on Saturday.
“He’s had a really good finals,” Jett said.
Jett has met his idol, spotting him on the sidelines of an AFLW match earlier this year, taking a snap and having a quick chat about footy.
The youngster plays footy with Mooroopna, like fellow Bulldog Laitham Vandermeer, and was steered towards following the blue, red and white by his uncle Tony, who, thanks to living in South Australia, will be attending the game.
He remembers 2016’s victory – “I was very, very happy” – and said he “can’t even answer” how he’d feel if the Bulldogs won on the weekend.
Was he feeling nervous or excited ahead of the big day?
“A bit of both, I’m excited because we can win the premiership and nervous but not as nervous because Melbourne’s one of the teams I wouldn’t mind losing to,” Jett said.
