Closure of path forces cyclists and walkers to seek alternatives

The shared bicycle and foot path between Mooroopna and Shepparton remains closed due to flooding from the Goulburn River.

The path is used by many people to commute between the two centres, and without a marked alternative alongside the four-lane Midland Hwy across the causeway, those commuters will have to find alternatives.

The Victorian Department of Transport said it provided a public transport bus service between Mooroopna and Shepparton from Monday to Friday, with a total of 10 return services.

The earliest service departs Mooroopna at 8.30am and arrives at Shepparton bus interchange at 8:40am. The last service departs Shepparton for Mooroopna at 5.40pm.

There are a further four return services on Saturdays.

V/Line also runs services between Mooroopna and Shepparton, with the earliest from Mooroopna to Shepparton departing at 8.33am.

Given the Bureau of Meteorology is warning of above-average rainfall for spring and summer, it is possible the path could be closed for some time.

A Department of Transport spokesperson said if demand on the public transport services increased and the timetables proved insufficient, changes could be considered.

“The Department of Transport continues to monitor public transport services being provided in regional towns and welcomes feedback from the community about service coverage,” the spokesperson said.
