Receiving a sudden phone call last Monday afternoon, Best was advised to make his way up to the Sydney event early lest a border closure lock him out.
Postponed: Winton SuperSprint stopped in its tracks once again
“After work at Best Leisure Industries, I packed my bags, had dinner and headed across to NSW before the border closure,” Best said.
“Thankfully I was able to stay with some friends in Albury before getting picked up by the MW Motorsport boys the following day.”
By Friday, Best was back in his Nissan for the first time in five months, cutting laps at Sydney MotorSport Park in preparation for round two of the Super2 series this weekend.
Superbikes to return to Winton as Championship resumes
“I haven’t been in the car since February at Adelaide,” Best said.
“It was so great to drive again and it wasn’t long before I was back up to speed.”
In its first race since COVID-19 shutdown, the Super2 series is the undercard for round three of the Supercars Championship.
Best will race in a combined Super2/Super3 format, though individual race winners will be named for each series.
