Lovell calls to improve safety at 'dangerous' Kialla crossing

In September, 2018, a young school family's car was stationary at the crossing during pick-up time when a truck travelling at 80 km/h seriously injured a young girl seated in the front seat.

The driver was later charged with negligently causing serious injury.

“This tragic collision two and a half years ago devastated the lives of a local family and remains in the conscience of the entire Kialla West Primary School community,” Ms Lovell said.

Ms Lovell called on the government to develop and fund safety upgrades at the crossing to prevent another "tragic" crash at the school.

“Being on a major highway, the crossing remains dangerously unsafe, yet the Andrews Government still refuses to provide a plan to upgrade the dangerous crossing andcommit funding to complete the works,” she said.

“The long summer school break was the perfect opportunity for the works to occur and onceagain it is disappointing the government didn’t use the opportunity to make the safetyimprovements needed.

“Motorists, the school community and particularly the family involved deserve better.”
