Poor air quality warning

A warning has been issued for poor air quality in the north east including Seymour, Shepparton, Wangaratta, Bright and Mansfield which is unhealthy for everyone.

Smoke from fires burning in the south east and Gippsland are currently affecting air quality.

As smoke can affect your health, you can exercise the following to lower your risk.

Reduce prolonged or heavy physical activity.
Anyone experiencing wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing should call Triple Zero (000).
If you have concerns about your health you should seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.

Tomorrow, as smoke clears, it may be suitable to open windows and ventilate your home or business.
You need to make an assessment of your local smoke conditions to decide if ventilation of your home or business is appropriate.
You should stay aware of conditions as they can change quickly, and air quality may deteriorate, especially in the evenings and mornings.

If you are sensitive to smoke include the following to lower your risk of health issues:

You will be more sensitive to smoke if you have a heart or lung condition (including asthma), are pregnant, or are over 65. Children up to 14 are more sensitive to the effects of breathing in smoke.
Avoid prolonged or heavy physical activity. Where possible you should try to stay indoors.
If you have a heart or lung conditions you should take your medication as prescribed by your doctor.
If you are asthmatic, follow your asthma plan and carry reliever medication with you.

Take care when driving as conditions may be hazardous due to low visibility caused by smoke.
It will be smoky or hazy in your area.
Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is currently monitoring air quality in the area.
