Although my daughters share plenty of personality and habitual traits — as expected when they’re learning life from the same people — it is the differences that really catch my eye.
Food is a big one at the moment.
Bonnie has recently turned nine months old, and comparing her relationship to food with Eden’s at the same age leaves me with an interesting assessment.
Eden was very interested in food from a young age, but she was never quite infatuated with it.
She would want to try anything and everything, but the end result would mostly just be a big mess and minimal actual intake.
Now that she is almost four (where has that time gone?), she mostly has wonderful manners and will eat an entire adult serving of a meal if she is so inclined — although the big mess remains.
But Bonnie is a completely different — and ravenous — beast.
I will make four pieces of toast in the morning and get to eat one of them because Bonnie has eaten two, plus the crusts of Eden’s piece.
And plenty of times there’s minimal evidence left of her feast — she demolishes the whole meal plus your fingers if you’re not careful.
My partner Grace experienced a new version of Bonnie’s insatiable quest for food first-hand earlier this week.
Having sat down with the girls for some sushi, Grace took her eye off of the lunch morsels for mere seconds only to have Bonnie swoop in and devour half a roll in no time at all.
It is also a common occurrence in our house to have to walk out of Bonnie’s line of sight to eat anything, lest she protest her lack of involvement in the snack.
With six teeth now protruding from her gums she really does look like a ravenous little monster.
But a cute one for sure.
