The joint Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria-run facility is scheduled to be handed over to fire services on January 13 for final fit-out and communications to be installed.
It's expected to be fully operational by February, which would signal a permanent move from the current "outdated" Maude St station.
However, Ms Sheed said community members were deeply concerned that the promised four-berth shed for CFA vehicles – which is necessary to protect equipment and ensure rapid response times in emergencies – would not materialise.
“Several people have contacted me concerned that the CFA volunteers will not get the promised four-berth shed at the new fire station,” she said.
“The fire station is nearing completion and there is no sign of the promised four-berth shed. Members of our community, who have shown a lot of good faith in coming together to give us a co-located fire service, tell me they are worried it will not happen.
“The Shepparton region sees more than 1200 fire emergencies every year. It would be disgraceful – as well as possibly putting lives at risk – if our volunteer firefighters don’t get what is needed and what has been promised.”
CFA assistant chief for CFA District 22 Tony Owen said the station was expected to be fully operational by February, and he hoped the four-vehicle shed would be completed by then.
He said the construction of the shed had "stalled" and was "in dispute" by the United Firefighters Union.
“We're hoping it'll be resolved before the projected completion,” Mr Owen said.
The shed would have space for four CFA vehicles, but none of them would be trucks.
He said the CFA brigade was excited to have the new station up and running.
“It's well overdue, the premises in Maude St were outgrown 20 years ago,” he said.
