Greater Shepparton City Council was one of 40 Victorian councils successful in the latest round of the Transport Accident Commission’s local government grant program.
Council will receive $30,000 to deliver a road safety and mobility strategy that will pinpoint critical road safety concerns in the Greater Shepparton area.
“This grant will make it easier and safer for locals to get around – whether that’s on foot, by bike or on wheels," Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
Projects funded through the grant program will focus on minimising and preventing accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists who are most vulnerable on the roads and must follow Safe System principles.
The Safe System acknowledges the need for all road environment elements to work together to ensure the safety of all road users.
These elements include roads and roadsides, vehicles, travel speeds and road users.
“Any life lost on our roads is a tragedy, that’s why we’re working with councils across the state to implement projects that keep Victorians safe,” Victorian Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne said.
The 2024 TAC local government grant program will open for applications in mid-June 2024.
