Protecting these places for future generations is at the heart of Moira Shire Council’s draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2026 to 2031.
Council is now seeking community feedback on the strategy, which sets out a clear plan for how council will enhance natural environments, support a circular economy, prepare for climate change and reduce its own environmental footprint over the next five years.
The strategy also includes measurable 2031 targets and practical actions across biodiversity, waste, water, energy and emissions.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the strategy reflected council’s long-term commitment to the environment.
“This strategy gives us a clear direction to protect and enhance what makes our region so special, and we want to hear from as many people as possible before it is finalised,” he said.
“Council has a direct role in managing and protecting our natural environment ― from maintaining roadsides and waterways to managing waste and investing in sustainable infrastructure.
“This strategy ensures the decisions we make today are focused on leaving our region in better shape for those who come after us.”
