Former ministers of the crown and community leaders paid tribute to state Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell at an event in Shepparton on August 23, following the announcement of her intention to not contest the next state election.

The guest list included former premier Denis Napthine and many of her Liberal parliamentary colleagues.
The tributes also included a heartfelt thank you from a former homeless young woman who was helped by the accommodation and support she received from the Shepparton Youth Foyer, which was established by Ms Lovell when she served in government.

Ms Lovell was elected to the upper house seat of Northern Victoria in 2002 and served as the minister for children and early childhood development and the minister for housing during the coalition government between 2010 and 2014.
Ms Lovell promised to continue to contribute to community life in Shepparton after she retired from her upper house seat.
