The Victorian Nationals have announced they will scrap the requirement for councils to provide purple glass bins if elected in November.

Since the requirement was passed into law in 2022, the purple bins have been criticised for taking up space, being an unnecessary expense and carrying low usage rates.
Under the Liberals and Nationals’ plan, councils will have the flexibility to decide how waste and recycling services are delivered in their communities, including whether a separate glass bin is necessary.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said families across regional Victoria should be able to choose a waste system that works for their community.
"Victorians are doing the right thing when it comes to recycling, but they should not be forced into a system that adds complexity and cost without clear benefits," Ms Cleeland said.
