Twenty teams descended on the fairway for a garland day organised by the Rotary Club of Mooroopna on March 27.
With four players hitting off per team, the 96 competitors enjoyed a hard-fought round of golf, a BBQ lunch, after-play snacks and a $3k raffle during what proved to be a day to remember.
One of Davidson’s favourite wineries, Summerfield of Moonambel, donated refreshments for the day, with the course Rogash having reported that the course was in ‘magnificent’ condition during play.
In all, the event raised a stellar $10k, with the proceeds set to be split between local causes including for Shepparton Foodshare, while other funds will likely be committed towards providing school scholarships in the region.
Currently, Rotary chiefs are looking into establishing a potential scholarship, yet to be determined, with GV Health.
Sam Davidson, the son of Stuart, spoke on behalf of the family as he thanked those present for helping to bring the festivities to life on the green in honour of his late father.
Reflecting the sixth edition of the Stuart Davidson memorial day, Rotary Club board member Rogash was thrilled to report another successful outing which demonstrated the community spirit at large in the Goulburn Valley.
“Stuart would have been rapt with the whole day, everything from the BBQ at the start, to the golf and the presentations, the friendship to seeing everyone come out for the day,” he said.
“There was no rain and the sun came out so it ended up being a great day for the area.
“Bill Hayward, the president of the Golf Club, said how proud they are to be part of the day - it’s a great day for Mooroopna, it’s a great day for the Golf Club.
“Chris Facer from Harvey Norman sponsored a couple of items and they entered a team, they had an absolute ball.

“They thoroughly enjoyed the whole day and he said that it was great to be part of the day.
“From my point of view, I’m hoping that they’ll be a permanent fixture!”
Rogash expressed his hopes that the contingent from Harvey Norman, along with the other participants, will return for next year’s edition.
Rotarians are currently in the process of trying to lock in a date for the proposed seventh Stuart Davidson memorial event next year.
“The money we raised goes into our Rotary Club coffers but we provide $5k for Food Share.
“The other moneys from our club provides a lot of money for local primary school kids going to secondary and we did a lot around the flood relief times, as well as local activities and local causes.”
This latest charity push comes after the roaring success of the Rotary Club’s New Year’s Eve Festival, with approximately $50k having been raised during that event via a car raffle at the turn of the year.
“All the money that comes in goes out to a variety of charities; some of them Rotary-organised, some of them not,” Rogash said.
