The Victorian Country Dahlia Championships and Annual Flower Show was held in Congupna over March 28 and 29.

This year, the annual Shepparton and District Dahlia Club show was combined with the Victorian Country Championships.
Club president Rodney Clarke said it was one of the biggest shows it had ever had, with people travelling from across the state for the event.

“The show was magnificent,” Mr Clarke said.
“There were 17 exhibitors and 368 blooms on the bench.”
The Willie Hawker memorial trophy went to Deb Collett from Portland.

Mr Clarke said flower-growers competed in several different sections, from junior and novice to intermediate and open.
“Despite being a bad year for growing it was a great turn out,” he said.
“We fell in love with the flowers 20 years ago, now we’ve had about 19 or 20 shows,” Mr Clarke said.
First prize in the open class went to Deb Collett from Portland.
