The first contract was awarded to the Queensland Fruit Fly Trapping Grid Services, with approximately $228,279 awarded to AGnVET Management Services Pty Ltd.
The contract will support the purchase and installation of fruit fly traps throughout the Goulburn Murray region, which will enable continued monitoring, data collection and reporting to track and measure fruit fly presence.
Services under the contract have commenced, but continuation beyond June will be dependent on an upcoming funding announcement from the Victorian Government, subject to funding availability.
The second contract of approximately $243,436 was awarded to Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd for the Gum Rd Extension in Shepparton.
This project will include the construction of a concrete footpath, kerb and channel, road pavement, a concrete laneway entry and stormwater drainage infrastructure and pits.
Works commenced on Monday, March 16 and are expected to be completed by May 1, weather permitting.
The works are required as part of the sale of the land to the Department of Health, which includes a condition that the site has road frontage on at least two sides.
Mayor Shane Sali said he welcomed the awarding of both contracts.
“Council’s capital works program is progressing well, with projects on track to be delivered within the financial year,” Cr Sali said.
“These infrastructure upgrades, such as the Gum Road extension, deliver essential works across Greater Shepparton.
“We also continue to advocate to the state government to ensure promised funding for Queensland fruit fly services is delivered.
“We know the damage this pest can cause to our region, and we remain committed to addressing this issue for the benefit of our community and local industries.”
