Dangerfield missed Geelong's 9.14 (68) to 9.6 (60) win over Adelaide on Thursday night with a calf strain, the recurrence of a pre-season injury.
Regaining Dangerfield, who dominated Hawthorn with 31 disposals, three goals and eight clearances in last year's preliminary final victory, would be a well-timed stroke of luck.
With more than 10 days' break before the Easter Monday clash at the MCG, Scott was asked if his captain was a chance to return and responded: "I think so ... yeah, that would be kind of my assumption.
"But if you look at our history with him, he will be absolutely cherry-ripe to play his absolute best and not compromise anything for later in the year, or we won't play him.
"If you had to lean one way or the other, I'd say it's likely that he'll play, but without that being a guarantee."
The Cats (2-1) surprisingly dropped Brad Close to the VFL but Scott indicated that it was more about getting work into him physically than any form issues
"It's very similar to Patrick in that he just had some interruptions in the pre-season we felt we wanted to manage - and there's a couple of guys in this boat as well," Scott said.
"We were really clear that we had some long breaks and it was a bit of an unusual start to the year.
"That can create some challenges, but it creates some opportunities as well.
"Closey, he'll get some VFL time, but this was more a 'let's get him back to his best physically' rather than a form thing. In fact, I'm happy to say it's not a form thing."
The fast-paced nature of games this season - accelerated by rule changes - has coincided with players picking up soft-tissue injuries.
Scott was unsurprised by the speed of the game, which he felt was a trend early in recent seasons, but indicated he was unsurprised by players picking up injuries,
"There is no doubt that the demands on players mean that if you take guys in underdone, you'd want to have a pretty good plan to get them through," he added.
"And the five on the bench does help that a little bit."
