Hosted by the Deniliquin Motorcycle Riders group and a fundraiser for Deniliquin Can Assist, the aim is to improve on the $14,000 raised last March.
Visiting a number of venues across the Edward River Council footprint, participants can bring their own motorbike or car, or can jump on the shuttle bus for an additional fee.
At each of the five venues, you’re allocated a card out of a traditional deck. At the final stop, the person with the highest poker hand value will win.
But there’s plenty of other chances to win, with a number of raffles throughout the day.
Deniliquin Motorycle Riders member Adrian Dario said it will be a fun and family friendly day, with the primary aim of raising funds to support locals with cancer.
Deniliquin Can Assist members will be helping the Deniliquin Motorycle Riders throughout the day, and guest attendees will include Can Assist donation recipients Luke and Alyssa Moffitt and their family.
In late 2024, what Luke thought was initially a bowel obstruction was diagnosed as a stage three tumour in his small intestine.
He was subsequently diagnosed with rectal cancer, and his long road to recovery is still continuing.
“Luke is still having check-ups every three months, but nothing has spread,” Alyssa said.
“He has suffered some nerve damage from the chemotherapy, in his hands in particular, so is still not able to return to work (as a mechanic).”
Luke’s diagnoses came less than three months after the couple welcomed their third child.
The fee to participate in the Poker Run is $25 per person, with an additional charge of $10 for anyone wishing to take the bus.
Poker Run registrations will open at 8am at the White Lion Hotel in Deniliquin, with the run departing from there about 10am.
Anyone wishing to utilise the bus transport option must register and pre-pay before the day. Call Jenni on 0408 546 293 for details.
The stops along the way will include the Conargo Recreation Reserve, where Poker Run guests can enjoy the ‘Conargo: A Day with Legends’ and NSW Whipcracking Titles action.
Breakfast and lunch will be available during the run, at your own cost.
