Gallery | Community groups make their pitch to locals

Dozens of vibrant stalls transformed the front lawn at Echuca library on Saturday, March 14, each serving as welcoming information hubs showcasing what their groups offer.

The Echuca Croquet Club allowed prospective players to try out their mallet skills on a short course, families got to create makeshift musical instruments at the Mainly Music stall, and the Loco Shed committee divulged on exciting future upgrades that are in store for them.

Community radio station EMFM was also broadcasting live from the event, interviewing representatives of each stall throughout the day and playing energetic music.

While community members enjoyed discovering new interests, the groups themselves welcomed the opportunity to connect with potential volunteers who could make a real difference.

It was the second year the Echuca District Netball Association made an appearance at the discovery day, bringing with it an upgraded set-up and plenty of pamphlets about its various competitions.

The mother-daughter duo holding down the stall, Billie and Hayley Logie, said the day was great for gaining interest from the community.

“Our committee’s shrinking each year, so while we have a lot of families and mums involved in the games... it’s the other stuff we need help with,” Hayley said.

“Days like this are great for us to spread the word.”

This sentiment rang true across the entire event – the day served both groups looking to connect with the community and individuals seeking meaningful new ways to get involved.
