Shaw stacked up the gold medals in two glorious weekends at the Darebin International Sports Centre Velodrome, first taking out the Victorian under-17 women’s time trial and individual pursuit titles before returning at the weekend to add the State keirin title to her collection.
A sprint silver rounds out a 2026 resume to date that includes a runner-up finish in the Australian Junior Track Series, and her reward was another selection for the Victorian under-17 women’s team bound for the Junior Track Nationals in Brisbane later this month.
Shaw is no stranger to the event, and Shepparton Cycling Club president and former Olympian Brett Lancaster said the young gun could find even more pace up north.
“Tracks in Australia can be quite slow,” Lancaster said.
“It has a lot to do with air pressure, current temperature and humidity, a combination of things have to be right.
“If you look at Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane, that’s normally a lot quicker.
“If you take that into account with Nationals, she should be a couple seconds faster, and then we've got a few other little tricks up our sleeve.”
With Shaw’s development progressing rapidly under the auspices of Lancaster and Steve Fairless, a move up the age brackets could be on the cards for the rising 15-year-old.
But the focus in the interim will be fixated on Nationals as the Shepparton community rallies around its cycling starlet.
“The amount she’s improved in a year is mind-blowing,” Lancaster said.
“To see her step up like this, the way she holds herself, the way she trains, the way she is around other people, she's doing a really good job.
“She's doing Shepp proud.”
The Junior Track Nationals will be held at Brisbane’s Anna Meares Velodrome between March 28 and April 1.
