According to the adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”.
But the NSW Rural Fire Service is advising that it doesn’t necessarily mean you call the local brigade.
It has issued a reminder that under current permit conditions, farmers are authorised to start permit burns from 4pm across the district.
These controlled burns may generate visible smoke during the late afternoon and evening as part of routine agricultural and land‑management practices.
The NSW RFS urges residents to contact Triple Zero (000) only when visible, unattended flames are observed or when a fire appears to be escaping containment.
Smoke alone is frequently associated with legitimate, supervised permit burns and does not necessarily indicate an emergency.
Public cooperation assists emergency services in ensuring that Triple Zero remains available for incidents requiring immediate response.
RFS says it appreciates the community’s continued vigilance and support.
