From heartwarming moments, individual success, to agonising dismissals, the Cricket Shepparton lower grades truly had it all on the weekend.
As finals nears, bowlers are hitting their stride and batters are seeing them like beach balls, with some skilful displays coming at a critical time in the season.
So close yet so far
While there was a couple of stunning feats with bat and ball on Saturday, a pair of batters would have been cursing themselves on the walk back to the pavilion.
Son of a gun Nate Yze looked untouchable out in the middle for Central Park-St Brendan’s B-grade side, and in the end it was only Yze himself that could stop his unbeatable defence.
After facing 220 balls in the Tigers’ 80-over innings, Yze would knock the bails off hit-wicket while on 87, a perfect patient innings falling heartbreakingly shy of a maiden ton for the teenager.
In E-grade, Shepparton Youth Club United’s Ian Maiden powered towards a rapid-fire ton, hitting nine sixes and striking at a rate of over 200, but he would knick off on 96, just one more lofted shot away from a fourth career hundred.
Newsphotographer Megan Fisher was at Princess Park to capture the moment Maiden’s fine knock fell short of triple figures.
Kyabram wicket keeper Kristian Chambers ensures the ball isn't dropped as SYCU's Ian Maiden's destructive innings finally comes to an end.

Northerners’ maverick picks up hat trick among sweet six
Dallas’ wings soared on Saturday, with the Northerners’ express pace bowler Dallas Furnell skittling six Mooroopna men in C-grade.
Furnell took it right up to the Cats’ top bats, claiming the first six wickets to himself - but it was three-ball magic across two overs where Furnell’s furnace was at its scorching best.
At the end of the ninth over, Mooroopna’s Matt Creaney was caught out off Furnell’s bowling - his fourth scalp at the time - before Cat Geoff Woods blocked out a maiden.
Furnell returned to his mark and trapped Adam Bowe LBW for a golden duck, and then sent Damon Zampaglione back to the sheds for an identical result, claiming a scintillating hat trick.
Furnell finished with figures of 6-25, with his rip through of the middle order helping Northerners claim a nine-run win.
Two others hit sixes with the ball on the weekend too - Katandra’s B-grade Shaun Candy (6-82) and Euroa’s D-grade Patrick Murphy (6-21).
Crouch stands at full height
While the aforementioned Candy swooped in for six wickets in Katandra’s B-grade clash with Karramomus, one man stood in his way.
Blood Chris Crouch was composed with the willow to lead Karramomus to 8-315 in what is a potent score that could end Katandra’s finals hopes in B-grade.
Crouch raised the bat for a second time despite coming in at seven, producing a clinical partnership with Connor Michel (52) to be not out at innings end on 107 off 141 deliveries.
Blood is thicker than water
Karramomus’ nickname the Bloods rang particularly true in E-grade last weekend, with the club playing three father-son duos in its defeat to Waaia.
Rob and Lachie Steer opened the batting together, while Ian and Jack Fleming and David and Jake Davis also took to the field together in red and gold.
Additionally, David Davis’ opportunity to play with his son made him the 1000th senior player for Karramomus in its club history.
