Over 150 years of local history was on display at the weekend, with volunteers from the Friends of Old Moama welcoming visitors to the River Captain's Cottage.

The doors were open for two hours on the morning of Sunday, February 8, for the first time this year, attracting plenty of curiosity.
“We’ve had an excellent response, which is good. Being open in the morning, people are walking past and coming in,” Friends of Old Moama president Sue Shaw said.
Notably, one visitor found they had family ties to the cottage thanks to photographs and information available at the site.

The group is hoping to build on increasing historical tourism opportunities on its side of the bridge, with the PS Melbourne now operating from the nearby Moama wharf.
“It’s creating a bit of interest for Moama, and you can’t beat a bit of history,” Ms Shaw said.
Plans are also in place to revive the garden in the cottage’s backyard, renovate the outdoor toilet and fix structural damage to the exterior from flooding.
New members are welcome to join the group, which meets at the cottage on the first Tuesday of every month at 10am.
The cottage’s next open day is planned on Sunday, March 8 from 10am to noon.
