Brandon Kelly, of Wallan, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to various driving, weapons, drugs and assault charges, including driving at a dangerous speed, failing to stop for police and refusing a drug test.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Nathan Marsh told the court Kelly was driving without number plates at 132km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Goulburn Valley Hwy at about 4.40am on August 31, 2025.
He didn’t stop for police when they pulled alongside him on Wyndham St, instead veering and colliding with a ‘keep left’ sign before continuing on to Macintosh St.
Kelly then turned up at a Grahamvale house wearing a balaclava, carrying a metal baseball bat and a knife.
He banged on the door and one of the four occupants grabbed the bat and tackled him to the ground before police arrived to arrest him.
He refused to do a preliminary breath test, and police found 0.48g of cocaine, 80g of cannabis and more knives in his car.
Kelly’s defence solicitor Emma King said her client had drunk a lot of alcohol and turned up at the wrong address.
She told the court Kelly’s pregnant partner had been sentenced to two years in prison in the County Court just before the offending took place.
Ms King also said he had drug issues, and had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, anxiety and depression.
Magistrate Amina Bhai said it would have been a terrifying experience for the people whose house Kelly turned up at, and said he had been driving at extraordinarily high speeds.
“You’re lucky you’re in this court ... and you haven’t killed or hurt somebody,” she said.
Kelly was sentenced to a 15-month community corrections order.
Ms Bhai said the order was focused on Kelly’s rehabilitation, and had conditions he attend mental health and drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation, and offender behaviour programs.
He was also disqualified from driving for four years.
