Police were called to the scene of a vehicle crash on Wednesday, January 28 after a motorist passed the vehicle.
Although the witness had not seen the incident occur, they observed that the vehicle's engine had been left running after it had rolled off the motorway, with no driver in sight.
A police operation in collaboration with Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, VRA Rescue NSW and SES members ensued after police were contacted.
Emergency services searched the area, including on farmland and other structures, in case the driver was injured and had left the crash site.
Following an extensive two-day search, including an air search, the operation was called off late afternoon on Thursday, January 29.
Murray River PD Detective Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said inquiries into the matter would continue.
“The extensive search did not locate any person from the vehicle,” he said.
“The vehicle was examined, and the significant search area has discounted that a person was seriously injured and needing rescue.
“Police inquiries are continuing into the road crash and the origin of the vehicle, including whether it had been stolen.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Moama police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
