Valley Sport is partnering with the Australian Sports Commission to deliver the workshop on engaging under-represented communities in sport volunteering.
The free session on Monday, February 23 will be a collaborative forum for those involved in local sport to learn and develop strategies to reduce barriers to volunteering and improving volunteer retention.
Valley Sport executive officer Megan Carr said volunteering was an important issue to tackle.
“Volunteers are the backbone of community sport, but many clubs are finding it increasingly difficult to attract and retain people,” Carr said.
“This workshop recognises that not everyone experiences volunteering in the same way, and it provides a valuable opportunity for our region to help shape solutions that reflect real community needs.”
Additionally, an inclusion workshop run by Valley Sport will also be held at La Trobe University campus on Wednesday evening, aiming to help clubs foster positive and respectful environments for people with a disability.
The 90-minute workshop, targeted at local sports coaches, volunteers, committee members and anyone involved in the local sporting scene, will include guest speakers that have lived with disability who will talk as to how an inclusive club culture can positively impact those that are impaired.
The volunteer workshop will be held in Room 120 at La Trobe University on Monday, February 23 at 6:00pm, while the inclusion workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 25, also beginning at 6:00pm.
