The countdown is on to February 7, when Melbourne Victory’s A-League Women side rolls into town to face Newcastle Jets in a twilight spectacular at McEwen Reserve.
A 5pm kick-off will headline a weekend that brings top-level women’s football into the heart of the region, offering local fans a rare chance to see the country’s best players up close.
The occasion will double as a homecoming for Shepparton’s Fiorina Iaria, who was signed by Victory in September, with the potential for the stars to align in the form of a pro debut at her former home ground.
But the fixture is only part of the experience.
In the days leading into the match, Melbourne Victory will immerse itself in the community, delivering school clinics, a masterclass session and coaching workshops designed to give local players and clubs direct access to elite knowledge and pathways.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali voiced his elation about another top-level football event landing at McEwen Reserve.
“Bringing Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets to Shepparton is about creating opportunities for our young athletes to see what’s possible and inspiring the next generation of football talent,” he said.
“This event strengthens Greater Shepparton’s position as the leading sporting capital of regional Victoria,” he said.
“There’s still time to secure your tickets, but don’t wait too long. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience elite football right here in Shepparton.”
Melbourne Victory managing director Caroline Carnegie echoed that sentiment, stating the trip north was part of the club’s commitment to regional growth.
“We are excited to bring a competitive A-League Women’s match and our Community Programs to Shepparton, further developing the Club’s connection to regional Victoria” she said.
“All local fans can enjoy elite sporting entertainment, and young people can be inspired by the country’s best talent.”
Tickets remain on sale, but with interest building, organisers are encouraging locals to get in early and be part of what shapes as a landmark night for women’s football in the region.
