Seven people were buried in an avalanche on the 2150-metre Finsterkopf peak in Salzburg's Grossarl Valley, a spokeswoman for the area's mountain rescue service said.
The rescue service said four members of the skiing group were found dead, while some of the others were seriously injured.
Earlier on Saturday, local time, a woman was killed in an avalanche in the Bad Hofgastein area.
The nationalities and ages of the dead and injured remained unclear in both cases.
A third avalanche accident occurred later on Saturday afternoon in the municipality of Pusterwald in the state of Styria.
Seven Czech ski tourers were travelling in the area when an avalanche was triggered. Three of them were buried and died at the scene, police said.
The four companions who were not caught by the avalanche were evacuated from the alpine terrain by rescue teams and given emergency medical treatment.
"The avalanche situation is precarious," the mountain rescue spokeswoman said, explaining that fresh snow is poorly bonded to older snow on the peaks, causing repeated avalanches.
More than 200 mountain rescue workers were accompanied by emergency personnel and several helicopters to help recover the dead and transport the injured to hospital, according to the authorities.
After several weeks without snowfall, about 20-50 centimetres recently fell in the Austrian Alps.
A young Czech man and another man whose identity is still unknown were killed while skiing off-piste in two other recent avalanche accidents.
The authorities have repeatedly appealed to skiers, particularly those in open ski areas, to be extremely cautious.
