On Friday evening, it was announced the Tatura product had been signed by Melbourne Renegades as a replacement player for the remainder of the Big Bash League 15 campaign.
It comes as Australian international spinner Adam Zampa comes out of the squad in preparation for the T20 World Cup, with national team coaches monitoring the 33-year-old ahead of next month’s tournament.
Archer voiced his elation at being included in the Renegades squad, with the potential of a professional debut arriving this weekend.
"I’m really grateful for the opportunity to come into the Renegades squad, I’ve loved being around the group this season and have learned a lot,” Archer said.
“If the chance comes on Saturday, I’ll be ready to take it.”
Archer has been instrumental for Carlton in this season’s Victorian Premier Cricket campaign, leading the wicket taking charts with 24.
The right arm leggie also impressed for the Renegades Academy last year during the Top End T20 Series and Melbourne T10 Invitational, putting his name on coach Cameron White’s radar after taking a hat-trick.
Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said Archer has shown his mettle this season, with the opportunity to make the BBL squad a deserved reward for the Tatura gun.
“His performances in Premier Cricket and for our Academy have been impressive,” Rosengarten said.
“We’ve really loved the energy his bought to the group. He bowls with real aggression and craft, and we’re excited to give him the opportunity to contribute at BBL level.”
The Renegades’ final game of the season materialises on Saturday, taking on Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval.
Archer has been included in the 14-man squad, with the final XI named at the bat flip.
