Customers can be assured that the water supplied by GVW is now safe for all purposes, including drinking, washing and food preparation.
The precautionary Boil Water Advisory was issued for Longwood on Saturday, January 10 and for Longwood East on Sunday, January 11 as the Longwood fire raged. The fire caused damage to the Longwood Water Treatment Plant and disrupted water supply to local customers.
Following verification of water quality testing results, and in consultation with the Department of Health, the advisory has now been lifted.
GVW managing director Steve Capewell said GVW staff had worked tirelessly to resolve the issue and support affected communities.
“We know the Boil Water Advisory caused by the devastating fires has been inconvenient for our customers in Longwood and Longwood East,” Dr Capewell said.
“Our thoughts are with community members who have been impacted by the fires at this difficult time.”
GVW will continue to support fire-affected residents by providing water at the Longwood Recreation Reserve.
A water tanker and bottled water will be available daily from 8am to 4pm until the Longwood Water Treatment Plant is fully back online.
