On Thursday, January 8, the outlet sold six winning syndicate tickets, with each winner taking home more than $250,000 from a $10 million prize pool.
The winners are part of a larger group of 40 individuals, none of whom know each other, who purchased their syndicate shares through 25 different Tatts outlets across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
“We helped make six people $255,000 richer,” NewsXpress Riverside proprietor Chris Georgopoulos said.
The winning streak didn’t stop there.
On Saturday night, a customer walked away with a division two prize win of $12,545.35.
Then on Sunday, January 10, the store sold a Set for Life win, valued at $5000 every month for a year.
According to Mr Georgopoulos, the surge of wins has had an immediate impact on customer interest.
“This week that syndicate was fully sold out straight away, so maybe it’s had an impact,” he said.
For many winners, the news is seismic.
“It’s life-changing for many people,” Mr Georgopoulos said.
“The reactions I get are mostly disbelief and surprise.”
Breaking the news is a challenge in itself.
“We have to tell them discreetly — it’s really hard not to crack a big smile,” he said.
