Joshua Mills, 18, and Charlotte Amadei, 18, completed the two-year course through GSSC’s partnership with La Trobe University.
Now in its third year, the program adds an extra two hours of study each fortnight alongside their VCE software development class, providing them with credit for La Trobe University’s first-year subject CSE1IIT — Inside Information Technology.
Along with the credit, Joshua and Charlotte have also developed key skills, such as independence, time management and problem-solving, skills essential for success at tertiary level.

“Balancing this kind of program alongside senior school commitments is no small feat,” GSSC digital technology teacher Adam Fox said.
“It’s a real reflection of their determination, discipline and passion for digital technology and innovation.”
The Advanced Placement Program challenges students to engage with complex concepts and projects typically reserved for university students.
Joshua said the opportunity helped him understand what was ahead.
“I felt it was a good way to get a taste of what university is like while still in high school, so I could be better prepared for the future,” he said.
Charlotte said the experience would benefit her long-term.
“Technology is becoming more important, so having that background will help in the future,” she said.
The Advanced Placement Program at GSSC is an example of how innovative partnerships between schools and universities can prepare students for success beyond the classroom.
