Police said a silver Ford sedan was seen by the police helicopter allegedly doing a fishtail in Fryers St, Shepparton, at about 1.10am on Monday, December 15.
It was then followed as it allegedly drove erratically in Shepparton and Mooroopna before stop sticks were successfully deployed.
The car collided into a fire hydrant at the front of GOTAFE in Fryers St about 10 minutes later.
The driver allegedly tried to flee on foot, before being located by police hiding behind some skip bins.
When he was arrested, the man allegedly had methamphetamines on him.
Police also searched the man’s Shepparton North home.
There they seized items including 48 shotgun shells and a 0.22 round, prescription medications, numerous stolen registration plates, an electronic cattle prod, three machetes, and other items believed to be the proceeds of crime.
A 24-year-old Shepparton man has been charged with failing to stop a vehicle on request, dangerous driving while pursued by police, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, failing to stop after an accident, using an unregistered vehicle, unlicensed driving, drug driving and possessing methamphetamines.
He was also charged with handling, receiving or retention of stolen goods, dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime, possessing ammunition without a licence, possessing prescription drugs and possessing a prohibited weapon.
He has been bailed to appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in January.
