The contract for the construction of the RiverConnect Route 2 Shared Path was awarded to O'Loughlin Excavations Pty Ltd to complete a 2.38km extension of the Yanha Gurtji shared path network, connecting KidsTown to Gemmill’s Swamp in Mooroopna.
The contract includes drainage works, asphalt path construction, bridge and boardwalk installation, signage and landscaping.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said it was fantastic to award the contract for this project, as expanding the shared path network was a priority for council and the community.
“This project supports council’s commitment to improving active transport options and access to outdoor spaces,” he said.
“We hope this extension between Gemmill’s Swamp and KidsTown encourages community members to get outdoors and utilise our great shared path network right across our region.”
The project is funded by the Victorian Government through Regional Development Victoria’s Council Support Package.
The allocated amount to fund the project was $991,321.
However, after the requirement for additional funding beyond the provided amount, council approved an additional $264,421.57 to complete the path.
RiverConnect Community Advisory Committee councillor representative and McEwen Ward Councillor Steven Threlfall said the shared path would deliver a range of important features for the community.
“This project is about more than just a path,” he said.
“It will provide safer, more accessible routes for walking and cycling, and includes key elements such as a new bridge, boardwalk, improved drainage, seating, signage and landscaping.”
Lower Goulburn Ward Councillor Kieron Eddy said the project would improve connectivity across the region and support active transport.
Construction is expected to begin soon, and is expected to be finished in late March 2026.
