Many people across our region go above and beyond to help others, and among the most dedicated is People Supporting People founder Azem Elmaz.

Rain, hail or shine, Azem can be found out the front of Kmart every Saturday morning with his food truck — selling food and offering free hamburgers, sausages and drinks to anyone doing it tough.
And, over the years, he has also given away countless free meals through his own business, Lutfiye’s.
However, this month, astrophotographer Brendan O’Keeffe is stepping up to help the man who has helped so many, by donating all proceeds from his 2026 Astrophotography Calendar to People Supporting People.
“The charity doesn’t just help the homeless — Azem is often the first to close his shop during an emergency and go straight to those who need help, including emergency workers, providing them with breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Brendan said.
“Azem works incredibly hard for the homeless, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to support.”
The calendars are available for purchase for $30 each at state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe’s office, 318 Wyndham St, Shepparton. You’ll have to be quick, as there are only 50 copies available.
All 12 images inside the calendar have been carefully selected from hundreds Brendan has taken over the years and come complete with his signature slice of information about each shot.
Bright, colourful and out-of-this-world stunning — it’s the perfect calendar for anyone with an interest in space.
For Azem, who suffered a setback this year when the motor in his food truck’s kitchen broke down, the support means a great deal.
“This year has been a bit tough, and the proceeds from the calendar will go towards the funds I had to put back into the truck’s kitchen,” Azem said.
“I’m really proud of him for reaching out and doing what he is doing, which also helps others.
“God bless Australia and all the beautiful people.”
