James Noller’s star is on the rise, unlike the character in his story – his trajectory is quite different.

But that will be discussed further during Noller’s author talk at Shepparton Library on Thursday, December 4.
There, the local writer will delve into his short story, Son of the Evening Star, which will be published in the upcoming anthology Voices of the Future: Stories of Myth and Memory.
The collection brings together 10 emerging writers exploring “coming of age, grief, adventure and hope” through a mix of genres.
All proceeds will support the authors’ development, including opportunities to attend writers’ conferences and pitch to industry professionals.
Noller said being included in the anthology had been “an incredible privilege” and praised his fellow contributors.
“They are truly a talented bunch,” he said.
“So it’s wonderful to know that the proceeds from the book will support these creative voices of tomorrow.”
Son of the Evening Star follows Charidor, a young Star who cannot shine, wandering a world of whispering trees and shifting shadows as he searches for belonging.
When a cry for help echoes from a darkened cave, Charidor must decide whether he can face the darkness despite his lack of light.
Noller said the story allowed him to explore what it meant to stand strong in the dark, even when you felt you had nothing to give.
“I have absolutely loved creating the world of Son of the Evening Star ... and it is truly a joy to share this story with the Shepparton community during the book launch,” he said.
“My hope is that anyone who comes along will leave with a bit of inspiration to wonder and dream in their own lives, whether that’s through reading, creating, or simply seeing the world around them with a new shine.”
James Noller’s author talk is on Thursday, December 4, at 6.30pm at Shepparton Library, 41-42 Marungi St, Shepparton.
