Distances walked were collated and counted towards Lions aim to walk around the country.
The night was organized by district Diabetes Awareness chairperson, Robyn Harrison, who has become well known for her role in this and also for Lions Assistance Dogs.
Beautiful weather and a lovely setting on the banks of Boosey Creek attracted a large crowd.
Each person was asked to walk to the cricket ground and complete laps of the oval, according to ability.
There was great support from the newly reformed cricket club, and some walkers were able to walk with the Blasters group who were having their first event there.
It was a great experience, with thanks to the cricket club for welcoming the walkers. The wonderful Tungamah Primary School also gave great support.
Leos, cubs and their families turned up in good numbers, with Travis Hook being a true champion with 25 laps of the oval.
Lap the Map control centre was a hive of activity.
An information session, with diabetes trainer, Janet Lagstrom gave everyone a great instructive talk on the different types of diabetes and their impact.
Janet also gave some very useful information on living with diabetes and provided a checklist for Type 2 diabetes risk factors.
She showed people how to measure their waist to observe change and avoid further increases and encouraged everyone to keep active to avoid the complications which can occur.
District Lions chairperson Les Harrison ran a mental health information stand and many people got much out of this.
Robyn Harrison and Helen Williams along with the rest of the Lions provided nourishing snacks.
Robyn’s buck wheat pancakes and Helen’s fruit platter were simply yummy and there were plenty of sandwiches and a few sausages.
By the end of the night, 50 happy participants headed for home.
Robyn was thrilled and thanked everyone who took part.
