On Wednesday, December 3, the school will host its ‘Empowering People of all Abilities with a Splash of Colour Fun Run’.
Education support officer Carmen Dye said the event was designed to put a spotlight on its students’ experiences and achievements.
“We want to really highlight them and what it's like for them ... It's a day to celebrate them and how amazing they are,” she said.
“We want to give them the best possible day that we can, and make it fun and inclusive. There's going to be lots of exciting things for them.”
Held on the school’s oval, the run will see students showered in coloured powder, slime, bubbles and foam while navigating obstacles.
For students less inclined to the messiness, sensory stations will be set up so they can still participate.
The school community, including some past students, and local support services are invited to attend, which Ms Dye said may open doors for those about to graduate.
“Hopefully, that will build a few connections with some of those services for those that are leaving, ready for that next step,” she said.
Major donations from Moama Bowling Club and Echuca Moama Community Enterprise, along with a grant from Campaspe Shire Council, have made the run possible.
Bunnings Echuca, Kmart Echuca, Moama Bakery, Echuca Meats and Woolworths Echuca West also contributed to the day.
“We’ve had a lot of donations, so we’re just trying to make the day as big as we can for our kids,” Ms Dye said.
This year’s International Day of People with Disability theme is ‘Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress’, which aims to promote collaboration, fairness and respect.
