The talented sisters were part of the Brisbane Lions’ epic preliminary final win over Carlton at Brighton Homes Arena, with Ruby starring.
The Lions will again take on the favourites North Melbourne Kangaroos this Saturday.
Incredibly, Saturday’s grand final match will be Cathy’s seventh grand final appearance; she played in the 2021, 2023 and 2024 grand finals.
But it was Ruby who excelled this time in the preliminary final in what was a best on ground performance.
When it counted, Ruby used her impressive speed to kick four important goals, a game high.
So often, Ruby Svarc is the hard-working Brisbane small forward who goes without reward on the scoreboard.
In her previous 56 AFLW games, Ruby had never kicked more than two goals, but in this preliminary final, she delivered when her team needed them.
Cathy also timed in with an incredible pressure game with a game-high of 11 tackles.
With the Lions dominating field position but unable to kick goals, it was the Svarc sisters who got their teammates and the crowd going with two majors in a five-minute second quarter burst.
Then, at the start of the second Ruby kicked a checkside for her third, laid on a goal for Courtney Hodder and then iced the game with her fourth in the final quarter.
For the third straight year, it’s a Brisbane and North Melbourne Grand Final at Ikon Park next Saturday.
