Saturday ushered in round five of the Goulburn Valley Playing Area Allan Matheson Shield, with the headline game seeing Euroa snatch its fourth win on the bounce in emphatic fashion.
Away at Mooroopna, Ken Sutcliffe’s charges clicked over by a single shot following a hotly-contested 14-76 to 4-75 thriller on the Cats’ home deck.
The game had pendulum-esque swing, with Mooroopna scoring the first rink 19-14 before Sutcliffe’s four wrested back control with a massive 19-shot advantage in the second set of ends.
Bruce Robson wasn’t to be outdone, though, as he skipped the Cats to a whopping 32-12 triumph against Andy Houston’s quartet in the third rink before Euroa skidded home 20-13 in the fourth.
Euroa, now third, is living the high life at the moment.
But the challenge is about to be scaled up tenfold.
Sutcliffe’s side girds up for games against Shepparton Golf and Tallygaroopna over the next fortnight, both of which secured healthy wins at the weekend.
Golf toppled fellow top four outfit Shepparton Park 16-88 to 2-76, taking three out of four rink victories to shore up its spot in second on the ladder.
Meanwhile, Tallygaroopna firmed its hold on pole position thanks to a 14-91 to 4-78 victory over East Shepparton, extending its unbeaten run to five games.
Last, but certainly not least, Tatura-Hill Top found the win to ignite its season.
The Bulldogs were a side possessed at home against Seymour VRI, ousting the division one newcomer 18-126 to 0-62 with Jarryd Tinning’s foursome carving out a ridiculous 44-11 result in the second rink.
It sees Tatura-Hill Top vault into fifth while keeping Seymour VRI locked down in seventh.
