Greater Shepparton City Council has already begun significant upgrades to amenities at the stadium to enhance the experience for users of the facilities.
The four-court basketball stadium sees thousands of athletes, referees, parents and staff enter the walls of the arena each week, and as part of a $3 million package by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, users will have an upgraded experience when having breaks between play.
Delivered in two stages, with stage one already complete, change room facilities have been and will be upgraded and refurbished.
Stage one involved the southern side amenities, the facilities closest to the stadium entrance, which are ready for utilisation by visitors to the stadium.
Male toilets have been renewed, while the shower area has been converted from communal to private cubicles, allowing for a more accessible and user-friendly experience, while the female facilities have been given a fresh face lift with their renewal.
With the southern end complete, work on upgrading the northern facilities will commence in mid-January for stage two of the project.
The development is expected to be completed by the end of March 2026.
Cr Steven Threlfall, McEwen Ward, stated the upgrades will provide users with the “best possible environment” and strengthen the region’s ability to host major events.
“Sport is a wonderful way to engage our youth, build confidence, and foster healthy habits,” Threlfall said.
“By investing in modern, accessible facilities, we’re ensuring that young people in Greater Shepparton have the best possible environment to train, compete, and thrive.
“These amenity upgrades strengthen our capacity to host major events while ensuring local clubs and community groups have the facilities they deserve.”
