The program, jointly administered by Heritage NSW and Edward River Council, supports property owners, custodians and communities to recognise, value and care for heritage items that shape our shared identity.
Mayor Ashley Hall said the grants reflect the community’s deep appreciation for its rich heritage and the importance of conserving places that tell the story of our past.
“Our heritage is more than bricks and mortar - it’s the foundation of our identity,” he said.
“These projects help ensure that future generations can continue to connect with the stories, architecture and cultural legacy that make our region unique.”
Council CEO Jack Bond also welcomed the announcement, highlighting the broader impact of heritage conservation on community wellbeing and local pride.
“These grants are an investment in our community’s future,” Mr Bond said.
“By preserving the places that hold historical and cultural significance, we’re strengthening our connection to the past and fostering a sense of belonging and pride in our local identity.”
The successful applicants and their projects are:
• Private residence in Harfleur St, Deniliquin – Restoration of foundations ($3,900);
• 307 Cressy St, Deniliquin – Replacement of heritage-style windows ($4,250);
• Historic Chapel, Phylands Lane, Deniliquin – Restoration works ($3,000);
• Historic Rammed Earth Farm Building, Tubbs Road, Blighty – Conservation of structure ($2,500);
• Private residence in Harfleur St, Deniliquin – Exterior repainting of residence ($3,350);
• 136 Cressy St, Deniliquin – Renovation works to historic building ($3,000).
These projects were selected from ten applications following a thorough assessment by council’s heritage advisor, ensuring alignment with Heritage NSW’s criteria. All projects will be completed by April 30, 2026.
The Local Heritage Fund is part of council’s broader commitment to creating liveable environments, inclusive communities and a vibrant local economy.
