The 30-minute interactive sessions, specifically designed for Foundation to Year 2 students, focus on teaching children practical road safety skills through engaging activities.
Since its launch in June, four local schools have participated in the program, with additional sessions planned for Term 4.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali, emphasised the program’s significance.
“This program equips children across Greater Shepparton with the knowledge and confidence to navigate roads safely. It also reassures teachers and parents that students are developing essential safety skills,” Cr Sali said
The initiative, which was developed following feedback from school crossing supervisors, was first trialled during National Road Safety Week 2024.
After receiving positive responses, council opened expressions of interest to local schools.
“Roads can be dangerous, particularly for young people. That’s why programs like the School Crossing Education Program are so important,” Cr Sali said.
Council remains committed to promoting road safety across the growing Greater Shepparton community, particularly focusing on protecting vulnerable road users such as children.
