Reaching for the record books
This partnership will be a tough act to follow.
When Undera’s Bayden Bailey and Pardeep Kumar joined forces at 3-128 during their Jim McGregor Shield clash against Invergordon, the Lions were already motoring as it was.
The duo bumped gloves and unleashed a batting master class, forging a monumental 253-run partnership that's set the bar sky-high this season.
Kumar's undefeated 144 runs came off a jaw-dropping 66 deliveries, peppering the boundary 24 times, including a dozen sixes.
Bailey’s 131 not out came off 99 rocks, with eight of those sailing over the fence off his bat.
Chris Hauser (54) and Travis Guppy (34) helped the Lions reach 381 and were unbothered in defending it, dismissing Invergordon for 109.
A duck for Russell Sheriff saw him miss out with the bat but again made no mistake with the ball with figures of 3-27, while Tristram Bailey enjoyed a more than tidy 3-4.
All hail the tail
Shepparton Youth Club United’s Shobhit Galhotra walked to the crease with his side in a spot of bother at 6-88, courtesy of Old Students bowlers Darcy Smyth and Joban Sandhu combined for six wickets.
But by the time Galhotra was eventually dismissed for 85 runs – before also going on to claim figures of 2-14 with the ball - his 52-ball bonanza had fired SYCU to a respectable 210.
And of course, a fair shout to the man above him Ian Maiden, notching a half-century of his own as a tidy bowling performance saw United bundle Students out for 122 in reply.
Out at Vibert Reserve, Waaia number nine Ethan McDonald was forced to dig deep into his bag of tricks.
The Bombers looked down and out at 7-27 in pursuit of Karramomus’s 170, but McDonald’s 61-run dig saw Waaia close to within 18 runs before the near hero was caught for the final wicket.
Right on Reydan
The best figures throughout the lower grades this week belong to none other than Numurkah’s Reydan Lacuin.
The experienced Blues’ bowler was in fine fettle as they dismissed Katandra for 60 in the Clyde Young Shield, Lacuin snaring 5-7, bang on the money with four rattling the stumps and one rapping the pads.
Lacuin, a veteran of more than 300 wickets for his club, was a frequent flyer in Saturday Sundries last season, claiming 38 wickets to book himself a spot in the News’ lower grade Team of the Year.
