Taking place in Perth in December, the tournament pits Australia’s promising rising stars in a state versus state cricket bonanza, and two names already familiar with the Victorian set-up have been named to compete.
The 14-player squad includes Old Students product Ashton Frost and Katamatite’s Kepler Lukies, whose selections in the Cricket Victoria Emerging Players program in June looks to have paid dividends.
Victoria Country will be coached by former Premier Cricket best-and-fairest James Miller, with the tournament to be conducted from December 1-8.
“We’re extremely proud of the depth of young talent coming through our pathway programs,” Cricket Victoria Talent Development Manager Tom Evans said.
“Many of these players have already performed at Premier and pathway level, and the National Championships give them a great chance to further develop in a high-performance environment.”
Frost, a left-hand batting all-rounder, is no stranger to the squad, collecting 136 runs and three wickets in the last edition, and his ability with both bat and ball saw him earn his Victorian Premier Cricket 1st XI debut for Footscray in early October.
Meanwhile, Lukies, who has stepped up to Fitzroy-Doncaster’s senior squad, is coming off a Murray Valley Cricket Association season where he blasted 336 runs and 36 wickets and numerous representative selections, and the big hitting, left arm spinner’s bag of tricks will be useful on West Australian wickets.
