From bustling country markets to the exciting introduction of the Garage Sale Trail, festival-goers will have plenty of opportunities to shop local, discover hidden treasures and connect with neighbours while celebrating this year’s theme, ‘Live Local, Love Local’.
Benalla Rural City deputy mayor and Benalla Festival Advisory Committee chair Justin King said the markets perfectly captured the essence of the festival.
“The Benalla Festival is about celebrating what makes our community special, and our local markets do exactly that,” Cr King said.
“They bring people together — locals, visitors, stallholders and families — to share a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere filled with creativity, local produce and great conversations.
“Whether you’re exploring a country market, joining the new Garage Sale Trail or enjoying A Day in the Gardens, there’s something for everyone to experience and enjoy.”
The festivities begin with the Tatong Market and More and Devenish Market on Sunday, November 2, offering live entertainment, delicious food and a wide range of local stalls in beautiful country settings.
This year marks the first time Benalla will take part in the nationwide Garage Sale Trail, on Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9.
The event promotes sustainability and community connection, encouraging residents to host or visit garage sales across the region.
As part of the trail, the Cooinda Garage Sale will run from 8am to noon on Saturday, November 8, with all proceeds supporting Cooinda’s residents.
The Preloved Market, held from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday, November 9 at the Benalla Visitor Information Centre, also forms part of the Garage Sale Trail and invites locals to shop sustainably for quality second-hand clothing and accessories.
Festival favourite A Day in the Gardens Market returns on Sunday, November 9 at the Benalla Botanical Gardens.
With more than 140 stalls, the market will feature handmade crafts, plants, gourmet food and local produce, set among the gardens’ stunning spring blooms.
The Benalla Festival runs from November 1 to 9.
