Headlining the event are internationally acclaimed artists Ciccio Nucera, known as the“King” of Calabrian Tarantella, and the renowned Sabatum Quartet, who will lead audiences on a musical journey through the heart of Calabria’s folk traditions. Their infectious energy and masterful performances – with the concert beginning at 6pm– promise to transform the McIntosh Centre into a lively piazza pulsing with rhythm, movement, and joy.
The Segmento Tarantella Festival offers something for all ages. Children under 12 will receive a free tambourine, encouraging the youngest generation to join the dance and discover the beauty of Italian heritage. Adding to the event’s family focus, the thoughtful initiative“Nonne on a Mission” will provide a free car service for grandparents wishing to attend the festa with their grandchildren — or vice versa! These initiatives foster intergenerational connection, ensuring no grandparent misses the chance to share this special cultural moment.
Proudly promoted by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), the General Consul of Italy, and the Segmento Foundation, the Segmento Tarantella Festival is more than a festival — it’s a celebration of belonging and community pride. It highlights the importance of cultural heritage in regional Victoria, where traditions continue to bring people together through food, music, and shared stories.
So this Friday, October 24, all roads lead to Shepparton for a day of dance, laughter, and Italian soul — where generations meet on the dance floor, tambourines in hand, to keep the spirit of the Tarantella alive.
