Tires gripped and ripped the red dirt terrain of the Goulburn Valley’s summit as junior riders dropped into the B-line trail on a sunny weekend, with ages ranging from as young as under-11 to 17.
Shepparton’s Goulburn Valley Mountain Bike Club assisted in running the event, aiding in track preparation, running food stands and filming the club’s participants in the home event.
The event was the second round of the Joyride Rookie Cup, with the young riders vying for spots at the state championships in November.
Two hundred and forty riders strapped on helmets and pedalled down Dookie’s peak to try and claim a top-20 or top-40 time, in what would qualify for instant state qualification.
One rider was pipped for qualification by as little as eight hundredths of a second, indicating the quality competition that journeyed to the Greater Shepparton region from all across the state.
News photographer Megan Fisher was at race day to capture the young daredevils shredding up the trail.
