Mark Bailey said the risk of spill in the Murray and Campaspe systems had fallen below the 10 per cent threshold needed to make a low risk of spill declaration.
“Inflows to the storages remained low in September,” Dr Bailey said.
“When combined with the water released to meet downstream demand, the risk of spill at Lake Hume and Lake Eppalock has reduced to less than 10 per cent.
“This declaration releases the water held in spillable accounts for use or trade by customers in the Murray and Campaspe systems.”
Dr Bailey said the risk of spill assessment did not describe the chances of flooding this season.
“The risk of spill is a water accounting assessment. It does not refer to flood risks downstream of the storages.”
