Sexton came through Finley’s junior program before putting together an impressive resume playing for Yarrawonga in the Ovens and Murray League.
He also had stints with Richmond and Southport in the VFL, and a premiership with Southern Districts in the Northern Territory Football League earlier this year.
Finley will be looking to bounce back after a down season in 2025, coming off a grand final appearance the year prior.
Club president, Matt Clarke, is excited about what Sexton will be able to bring to the table.
“Obviously, Jack’s got a lot of really good experience from the VFL, Ovens and Murray, and he’s won the premiership in Darwin,” Clarke said.
“He’s had some great coaches himself, and he’s the right age to get into it for our group.”
As well as the challenge of coaching a side for the first time, Sexton told the Southern Riverina News it was a great opportunity to get back to his hometown.
“After a few years of living in the city, in Melbourne and on the Gold Coast, it was a great opportunity to come home to the farm,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of developing all the young blokes at the club.”
Sexton is optimistic about what Finley could accomplish next season with a group of developing young players, drawing inspiration from Murray League reigning premiers, Cobram.
“You look at a side like Cobram, and what they’ve been able to do with that group of locals,” he said.
“I think if we continue to develop this group, obviously the goal is always finals, and then we’ll see where we can go from there.”
Sexton takes on the role from Jordan Taylor, who has coached the side for the last two seasons.
