The awards recognise people who have made a significant contribution this year, provided outstanding service, or had a positive impact on the community over many years.
Categories are: Citizen of the Year; Senior Citizen of the Year (65 and over; not available in Murchison); Young Citizen of the Year (under 30); Community Event of the Year; Sport Award; Senior Sport Award (65 and over); and Junior Sport Award (under 18).
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali encouraged residents to put forward those who went above and beyond.
“These awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the efforts of remarkable community members and give them the recognition they deserve,” Cr Sali said.
“We all know someone who steps up in times of need or takes time out of their day to improve the community.
“A nomination for the 2026 Australia Day Awards would be a wonderful way to show them gratitude for their hard work.”
Nominations for the Greater Shepparton awards close Wednesday, November 12, while Murchison nominations close Wednesday, November 5 due to an external judging process.
Award winners will be announced on January 26, 2026, with overall Greater Shepparton winners also recognised at the Australia Day event at Riverlinks Eastbank, commencing at 2pm.
